Malakoff Utilities staff reach out to homeless

News Clipping

This year, Malakoff Utilities Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Wirazone Sdn Bhd), a subsidiary of Malakoff Corporation Berhad made a difference in its Corporate Responsibility Social (CSR) programme. Previous years, for its CSR programme, Malakoff Utilities donated cash to selected ‘Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim’ and also assisted in repairing their wiring system in their homes.

With the tagline “Lighting up Lives” which coincides with its nature of business as a utility provider, Malakoff Utilities collaborated with Kindness.my to feed the homeless within targeted area in Kuala Lumpur city. Programme started at 12.30am on Sunday, 21st July, 2013 with a total of 43 volunteers combined to distribute chicken fried rice, mineral water and blanket to the homeless community.

Volunteers gathered at Jalan Tun Siew Sin next to Mydin Kotaraya before they were divided into groups to move to selected areas for the distribution activity. Walking in between alleys and streets in the middle of the night was a new experience to most of the Malakoff Utilities staff and all of them were very excited for this astonishing and an eye opener experience.

The objective of this event is to encourage the public and staff to reach out to the homeless community, and reduce their burden. Life in the city can be very hard when they have no money and nowhere to go. Malakoff Utilities aims to reach out to these people and at least, bring some happiness by giving them food and blankets to protect them from the cold night and ease their burden.

The programme ended at about 2.00 am and managed to distribute 175 packed food and drinks to the homeless community in Pudu and Central Market area.

It was indeed a humble and eye-opening experience. By doing this programme we realized that there are a lot of unfortunate people out there who needs money, foods and even a place to live. It has also given the volunteers an opportunity to provide aid unconditionally and be grateful with what they have.
